HARRY is a 3-year-old neutered male. This little guy is pure puppy. He runs; he bounces; he swims; he chases his toys; he plays and plays and plays. And, by the way, he does it all on three legs. But don't tell him. He doesn't know. He thinks he is super-puppy. Lucky lost a leg in a tractor accident as a very young pup. We thought that wasnt too Lucky and he got a Harry Potter scar on his nose at the same time; so his new moniker is Harry. Now he is a wizard with magic powers. He put his foster parents under a spell with his energy and love of life. He adores kids. He wags his tail so hard when he sees one he almost falls down. Because of his enthusiasm he might be a bit much for toddlers. Discipline is not his strong suit. He is not a fence jumper but given the opportunity he takes delight in exploring the world beyond. A secure fence is important. His foster home has strict rules on what is and is not acceptable. Harry has broken them all but gets away with it. He curls up in a nice leather chair and when you say no, he just wags that tail and licks your nose. He jumps on the bed to wake his people, maybe sometimes a bit earlier than they want. Can't waste the day! Things to do! Some obedience work is very much needed. During his quiet times he is very loving and will snuggle with the best of them. Because he doesn't have a "pet me" paw, he likes to try to crawl into your lap. If rejected he will pout a little and then curl at your feet usually with a toy under his chin. He gets along very well with the foster family's older male. He likes to interact with other dogs but because of his infirmary their reaction to him may vary. The chemistry with other dogs in a potential home would have to be carefully observed. His curiosity and energy might not work well with cats. He likes to walk but needs a quick pace. Although he would never complain, too long a walk without a rest may be detrimental to his long term arthritis prospects. Swimming is very good for him and he enjoys a daily dip in the pool. Because of his tripod propulsion, slippery floors are difficult for him to manage. Tiles and bare hardwood can induce a fall as he tears around. He is not intimidated by stairs but again bare wood can generate a nasty fall. He rides well in the car and has shown neither separation nor thunderstorm anxiety. Harry would do well with almost any family. Because of his youth, if left alone for long periods he will become bored and develop bad habits. A stay at home mom or dad with time to devote to his training would be ideal. He is a full package of love. Harry is in a foster home in the Virginia Beach area.
