Description
If you are looking for the perfect golden girl, look no further than 10-year old Tessa. Sweet, quiet and polite, Tessa wants little more from you than food and love. Her house manners are impeccable and she has never met a stranger. She is presently being treated for bladder, skin and ear infections, some of which may be chronic and will need to be monitored closely. Like many seniors, Tessa has some arthritis in her hips which does slow her down a bit, so in addition to medications for allergies and her present infections, she will also need medication for her arthritis for the rest of her life. She struggled a bit on stairs at first, but is getting much better at them (although still takes them slowly). For this reason, her perfect forever home will have few stairs and no small children who might lean on her or other large dogs who might play too roughly with her. Tessas hearing has been damaged by persistent ear infections, and although she has regained some hearing in foster care, it is unclear how much she will eventually be able to hear. Her forever family will need to understand that she most likely will need visual cues when you want her to do something, and she is happy to oblige when she understands what you want her to do. However, she should not be outside of a fenced area off of a leash, because if she wanders, she cannot hear you call her back. Tessa gets along well with her feline foster brother as well as her pug foster brother and sister. She really enjoys her crate, and although she can be left alone with the run of the house during a normal 8 hour work day, you will often return home to find her napping comfortably in her crate with the door open. Tessa is on a diet to trim down her frame, which will also help take some of the strain off of her hips. She is very much a people dog and would prefer a home where she will have lots of attention and be with her humans as much as possible. She really comes alive when she sees a yellow tennis ball, and enjoys a short game of fetch. When she gets tired of playing, she plops down with her tennis ball for a nap. Even though she doesn't have as much spring in her step as a young golden, Tessa more than makes up for it in the love she gives her humans. Tess is in a foster home in the Richmond area.
