Golden Retriever - Large - Adult - Male - Dog - Louie
Description
Louie is a very lovable 7 year old neutered male who thrives on love and attention. He is believed to have an atrophic muscular disorder, possibly muscular dystrophy, which causes him great difficulty walking and maintaining his balance. In addition, he has instances of inappropriate drooling and trembling, as well as night vision difficulties. Louie requires a great deal of attention due to his health needs. His current treatment consists of diet, exercise and massage. He does not do steps well at all and due to the danger of injury, he should not climb steps on a regular basis (and only then with assistance). He falls easily on any non-carpeted indoor areas. Therefore, he should not be allowed free access to these areas. The ideal home for Louie would be one floor with all carpet, no stairs, and a caregiver who is home throughout the day. Louie is good with other dogs and children. However, due to his health issues, only older children and less active older dogs would be appropriate company for Louie. Louie's favorite toy is a plush rooster that crows. He loves to go for walks outside and although he stumbles a lot, he would just keep going and going and going if you let him. He's been know to lie down in defiance when you limit his walk and head for home! He also loves just hanging out in the back yard with his foster brother. He gets very excited over walks, treats, and when welcoming you home. He' s even been known to try running! We're working on trying to get him to stay calm so he doesn't hurt himself!
