Golden Retriever - Large - Adult - Male - Dog - Butterscotch
Description
BUTTERSCOTCH 5-year-old neutered male Heres our boy Scotch, or Butterscotch, as he was presented to SEVA GRREAT. He was an owner turn-in from a family who loved him, but their own medical situation prevented them from keeping up with his energy. We promised we would find him a good home. Scotch has the classic Golden profile, coloring and overall temperament. He loves being with his people, frequently coming into (and ONTO) your space to ensure hes getting his allotment of attention. He thrives in the outdoors and will run from one end of our yard to another, especially when hes found the scent of a squirrel or rabbit. We havent seen him dig, and he does not seem interested in challenging the 42 high fence. Scotch knows sit, stay, down, and comes to his name, but is not always consistent. We did quickly teach him to sit and wait quietly for his food bowl. Completely housebroken, he has never made a mess in the house even after nine+ hours. This Golden is excellent on the leash, and seems okay with rides in the truck, never getting in the way of the driver or making a ruckus of any kind. He likes to follow the kids around too. Tricks arent exactly his thing. He will chase a ball or stick, but will bring it back about 40% of the time. As a whole, Scotch is a wonderful dog. There are some caveats, however. He has some issues with chewing, particularly childrens toys and any socks he can get his paws on. This has necessitated kenneling him when we are not home (he doesnt buck the kenneling, but sometimes he will need to be taken into it by the collar). He occasionally tries to get on the furniture, and is reluctant to leave when caught. Scotchs previous owners reported that he does not seem to like little dogs. Despite a short snarl upon initially meeting our dogs, Scotch has melded into the house very well, including playing roughhouse and tug-of-war with our two retrievers. Because Scotch is clearly very smart, we believe he can be taught to enjoy meeting new dogs consistently in a short period of time. Scotch seems eager to please, and we are sure that with training, he can un-learn any behaviors that dont fit into his new environment. Scotchs foster family likes him very much, and they are sure he will make a fine family dog for anyone with a little time to train him. Scotch is currently in a foster home in the Virginia Beach area. Please mention Scotch on your adoption application at www.adoptagolden.com
